  • stupid brake pad question

I'm not very familiar with Organic pads... is there a "shelf" life on them? I have no idea how old these pads are but they still have lots to go before needing replaced. I know semi-metallic pads will start to stress crack when they get beyond their years. is this the same with organics? I would think being an "organic" material they eventually will break down?!

    Like I said stupid question...

The older they are, the worse they stop. They harden with age.

I'll just save everyone the trouble of answering my stupid question and buy new pads... $60 is better than a guard rail on the mountain pass.

ya ebc is what I've always used on my sport bikes... brakes, oil, gas and tires are like security blankets. sometimes brand loyalty is more mental than anything else. but if it gives a fella piece of mind I'm not gonna try and change his mind even if I can support evidence otherwise

I put gp style levers on my r1. There's no need for anymore than 2 fingers on the brakes. The brembo's will throw you over the handle bars in a hurry. I rode my r1 for 100 miles 1 day, came home and the wife wanted me to take her for a ride. So i pulled it the xs and we got to the first stop sign and I grabbed the brakes like it was my r1... I looked like a noob with my feet down yelling stop.

                  S/s

Don't know if you have the S/S lines yet or not, but that would give you the power to lock the front wheel with a strong pull (not that I am recomending that) As to your pads, age matters some, but if they are thick, you can take off the glaze with some 80 grit and a flat surface block and get a good stopping surface with the S/S lines Just break the sanded pads in like you would new ones

I wasn't happy with the organics. I like the semi-metalic or sintered. To really get some stopping power with these hard stainless rotors, you need something that bites. Many other bikes use softer rotors for better stopping power.

The manuals I have read say not to use agressive compound pads as the rotors are too soft
