  • Front wheel bouncing

I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced the front tire/wheel bouncing, not wobbling, but bouncing at speeds around 80. It does it around 60 and 70 but you don't really notice it til around 80. And it's not just on one certain road.

    Thank you in advance.

      Tire

The tire is most likly way out of balance or out of round. Also the front shocks / forks may not be working properly, Oil. seals valving. many reasons for them not working right. I would change the fork oil and check the tire for round and balance 1st

I had a front tire seperate on a Toy run. It started with a bounce for a while then it got so I could not even ride it over 30Mph.
The whole Toy Run slowed down and escorted me into town. Some then went as far as to ride me all the way home after too. It was a cool experience.
Well back to the reason for the post...Check, recheck and check again the whole front end and tire. It could make all the difference.

            Maintenance

From my own experience with the 80 SG I bought a few months ago (and which looked very good cosmetically), many of the original and second, third, etc. owners do or did very little regular maintenance on these vehicles. From the neck bearings to the rear gear box mine looked like it had seen zero regular maintenance once I got into it. I would recommend that you check everything. Right now you are concerned about wheel hop which could be anything from a tire that's coming apart to no damping in the front fork. If I were you, I'd get new tires, drain and refill the front shocks, check spring lenght etc. If, in fact it does have oil in the shocks but isn't leaking, your seals are probably OK. Then, check everything for signs of maintenance/do all the required maintenance and you'll feel better and know you are not adding insult to injury when it comes to the normal wear and tear on your bike. If you don't already have a manual get one, either on here or from the net. You'll be glad you did and have many answers at your finger tips

I had a tire (the first tire I ever put on the front of my XS) that would bounce right at 70mph. I don't ride the freeway all that much so I didn't notice it very often, but it made long trips unbearable. It actually rattled the knobs off the radio in my fairing! I lifted the front wheel off the ground, and held it stable, then, looking just over the surface, I spun it slowly and could see a "fat" spot on it. Took it back to the place I bought it over a year afterward, and they replaced it for free - including installation. No problems with the replacement.

Their old tires and I just replaced the oil and seals in the forks a few months ago. I am buying tires later this month anyways because the back tire is so word you can see the cord/thread in the tire so I can't even drive it anyone til I get some new tires. I will see if that fixes it but if not I will try the other stuff

Fabric showing? Bouncing? Park that thing until you get some new tires.
