  • jmcvey, my build thread

Hey all, I guess its time i make a build thread.

I'm not too long winded, but as an introduction I'll say that I bought my bike as a hobby I've always wanted to do, I'll be fixing it up slowly over the winter months and in the spring i hope to have her ready to go (and to have learned how to ride motorcycles of course.)

Anyway, I want to make it more or less cafe style, but not not the full blown cafe racer style (some people can get pretty picky about what that means) and mostly just have fun with it. The grad school I'm at has a full metal and paint shop so I should get a chance to make my own seat and rear fender and yeah, thats about it i guess.

heres a bike i really like

    ON TO MY BIKE!

    here we are.

and with a few bits removed

look at all these nasty chrome bits! god i wish they were black.

    there we go.

Anyway, here is a page where i've been dumping images as i make any progress. i'll post more here or just questions and this and that.

      Make it yours

Custom bikes are as much fun to build as they are to ride. They become a part of you, and you a part of them. Most of the time it really shows who you are through the mods that you do to a bike. I had a Kawasaki 454LTD in college undergrad that I did two complete customizations to. It was a great bike.

      Good luck on yours!

I see you decided to go black on your exhaust. Did you remove or etch the chrome before you hit it with the black? And, did you ever get it to run? One thing about these things is they'll make a man out of your or kill you. One or the other. If you are determined enough you'll get there in time.

ha... I was hoping nobody would ask that...

the short answer is yes. yes i did get it running.

the long answer involves the battery being dead....

we all get one stupid mistake, don't we?
