  • whats supposed to be in there?

    Hi all,
can anyone post pics of whats supposed to be in the air box ? there is a metal frame with a thin peice of foam stapled on it, a gooey mess where the 4 hoses hook on and really like to see what it should look like.
Its a 1978 XS1100 , sat for 10 years that we are trying to restore.
    Thanks

You need to get the picture thing figured out hon. It's a lot easier to tell you what's wrong if we can see it.

Sounds like it has (had) a washable reusable filter in there and the foam has deteriorated over time.

            air box

Thanks! that answered my questions the "wire ring" is in it, but no foam gasket top or bottom and no "pink paper" filter inside. She took apart the white triangular peice, wasnt there for that part, so now I know that too. Thats the part thats all gooey.
            Thanks all

That filter was in my stepsons bike when he bought it. I could hardly believe it could run it was so plugged.
