My high/low beam switch is snaped off, is that a part that can be salvaged from another one or do I need to replace the whole switch assy? Either way, anyone have an extra one cheap. Thanks! 79SF

I don't have one for you, but yes, they can be replaced as a single piece if you want to. Usually, people sell the whole unit though.

Forget trying to glue the parts back together. Must be some kind of wierd plastic they are made of. They just do not hold up. I ended up buying a whole unit from Mikes XS.

You can salvage that switch from any number of XS bikes. There are plenty of trashed switchgear in the junkyards. How many XS650's, 750's, 850's, 400's, are in the dump? All you need is one with that switch still intact. I expect it shouldn't be too hard. I had one, but already gave it away.

Even if you get one that has a messed up turn signal switch, you can still swap out the internals and mix and match as needed to get one complete working unit.
Then again, a new one might look real nice and you know it'll last.

Here's the link to the Mike's XS one: http://www.mikesxs.net/product/24-2058.html

You may have to redo the wiring connection harness, but that's not too hard.

            Will this work fer Ya...

...this is off my XS650 parts bike. It has the same wires but dissimilar plugs. Also it doesn't have the Emergency Flasher function but the guts will probably swap out. It's a little ragged but if You haven't found a really cheap one yet LMK

I was just thinking about the 'guts' part and can't he use his lower half (that has the hazard switch) and the top half off a 650?
The screws should line up right? May have to paly with the internals on the upper half some, but that should work.
You may have fun re-running the wires thru the sleeving, but it sure would be a good complete fix.

I can't look at one, because I have no access right now, but why not just remove the switch and install it in place of the broken one?

His switch button appears to be scraped unless that's just the photo, I'm not looking for perfect, but a little more than just functionality if I'm going to go through the trouble of swapping parts, but I do appreciate the offer. And I believe some one(PO) at some point replaced mine with one from a standard as mine doesn't have the flasher button. I'll get pics of mine and post them.

The four-way flashers didn't come in until the '80 models, so your '79 never had one. They also changed the plugs where the switches connect to the main harness in '80, so they're not a direct swap.

                          Oh Good...

...glad You found one. Now that I think about it, It might behoove me to save this one as a spare for my '77 XS650 instead of chopping the wiring up.
