  • Best grips for long riding dresser?

    Ok guys,

My 33 year old stock grips on my 79 SF are hard and falling apart. Anyone recommend anything aftermarket? I'd love another stock style pair. Ive got the hour glass style with built in throttle rocker... are they still out there for sale?

    Thanks
    Don

Not OEM-style (sorry, but worth mentioning), but the gel grips MikesXS sells in a few patterns for $11 are very comfortable for long trips. They are soft but not mushy like the word gel would lead you (well, me anyway) to believe, and grip with gloves or bare hands really well. I found I can really modulate the throttle a lot more easily while covering the brakes.

I've though about getting some gel grips. I didn't like em much on my R1. but I thinks it was more the diameter than the grip...

+1 on the stock grips, they look cool on these bikes with the rubber coated levers and black dust boots IMHO. Not the most comfortable on long trips though. You can cut two pices on foam pipe insulation that fit tight on the OEM grips for long trips to cut down on vibration

Those gel grips from MikesXS definitely are larger in diameter, so if you prefer a smaller grip those may not be for you. I like the larger ones, but then again, I have giant bear paws for hands

No I'm looking for something a Lil bigger. I bought some for my r1 and they seemed smaller in diameter than the stock ones. I'm in between a large and so in glove size so I have to buy large's and stretch em. I rode once with these smaller grips with my cold weather gloves on and they got lost in my hands. So if them gels from mikes are a good diameter I might give them a go.

                    Small hands

My hands are kinda small, so the OEM grips work good for me

Never had any problem with them getting hot on me. When I put them on this bike it improved the looks alot in my opinion. They are pricey, but very comfy.
