S/s
I don't have one on my bike, but I did look into it quite a bit. I didn't buy due to $$$. I have S/S exaust on both of my cars and love em 200K+ on my 740IL and still like new I notced they turn a gold hue on the bikes instead of blue like chrome does (It looks kinda good on a black and gold XS like James IMHO) Should never rust through (except in extrem conditions) They look OEM for the most part, not sure if they are baffeled inside the same1979 XS1100 Special (Mad Max, OEM) Current

Haven't got the set-up James has, but stainless does have the tendency to crack a little easier, particularly around welds; it generally doesn't like the heat cycling. Shouldn't be serious problem here, as most of the exhaust system won't get that hot.Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

My Kerker is Stainless-i think that is what the material is -still looks good even though its been on the bike since around 1987?The pipes do turn colors if the tuning is off and material has a lot to do with the bluing. When my bike was tuned good the blue color kind of went away.1980 XS1100 SG

I learned quite a while ago that all stainless material is not the same. In fact there are many different materials used in making stainless items and even the quantites of the different materals determines the color, both before and after being exposed to heat and how long they will look good. I have stock headers on my FZ1 and they are made from a good grade of stainless but I still polish them a couple times a year with Nevr-Dull. So far after about 4 years and almost 20,000 miles they look pretty good and they've gone through a lot of rain, salt from the beeches at Gulf shores one winter and a whole lot of killed bugs. Personally I thought the stainless on my 2010 Triumph was pitifull compaired to theYamaha's material.
Her'e a pic of the FZ1's pipes [/IMG]Can't beat the smell of gas & oil

Nice
Yes, S/S comes in many kinds of compounds. The Nickel is the most importaint metal in rust proofing, but I have seen S/S out of China, that isent As to cracks in weilds, like I said, I have two OEM exaust systems on my cars 200K+ on one, and no crackes, but german S/S, not China S/S1979 XS1100 Special (Mad Max, OEM) Current

Yep as many of the metalurgical types on here know, there is many grades of stainless...302..304..316 just to name a few, and yes the amount of nickle is the most popular variable. The stuff form China has no ASTM designation (like 302, 304, 316) so it has no guarantee of the metalurgical components.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!
When your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt.
