I picked this up for opening bid plus $60 shipping. I'll have to repair the #3 header flange, but I've got a sacrificial exhaust system I can get that off of...
Not sure why I bought it, as I don't own a special anymore, but it was too hard to turn down for the price..
Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

Steve, if stored properly they shouldn't go bad and lets face it their not making any more. Just think of it like an investment that should appreciate with time. At least this is what I tell my wife every time she asks me about the sets of SG and LH exhausts I have in the storage shed.
Steve, you talken about the one I started the thread on? $60+ S/H, nice You can clean up weild or whatever and sell for 3X your investment

A really nice OEM that is totally free of rust must be worth $200 if it's worth a penny. When I was trying to find a good exhaust for my 81 Goldwing, they wanted almost a grand which knocked me to the floor. If the bike is kept indoors and not started up a lot for short durations, which will leave a lot of mosture in the mufflers, they'll last long time but sitting in the rain and a lot of short trips will do a system in. If a person had the space, buying up really nice exhaust systems for older bikes could prove to be a nice investment.
There is a rusty dented Xs exaust on Ebay now and he is asking $400.00 + S/H I seen a good set bring $600.00+

I've thought about maybe altering this set to fit a standard, but we'll see how that goes; I kind of like the idea of shorter mufflers for a bit 'sportier' look. I've also got a set of 'converted' standard pipes with shorter GS1000 mufflers welded on that I might try. Whoever did the mod somewhat bungled the rear mounts, I'll have to see how well that cleans up. No crossover either, but I've got a trashed special exhaust I could rob that off of. The trick here is welding on them without screwing the chrome up totally, or at least being able the 'hide' the welds...
