  • Exhaust opinion

Hello, with the knowledge of everyone on this sight, I like to get an opinion on my 1980 XS1100 all stock except K and N filter in stock airbox and I have a Supertrapp tuneable exhaust on it, which would be better for city use, stock pipes or the Supertrapp that is installed and tuning it?
Thank you for your time and response.

You can tune the Supertrapp to nearly equal the OEM exhaust for low-end power with slightly better mid/high range power, but there will always be a trade-off somewhere in the power curve. But for the best low-end grunt, you can't do any better than the stock exhaust. For stop-and-go city riding, that's what you want....

The next trick is finding a good stock exhaust if you don't already have one....

      Pipes

Can't beat stock pipes.. Very hard to find and very expensive.

I run a Mac 4-1 header with Supertrapp tunable can and it has great low end pep for around town. I'm running stock pilot jet size 42.5 and 3 sizes up on the mains. IIRC, I am running 3 discs on the Supertrapp and an K+N air filter.

          Exaust

+1 on Phill (by the way, one of the most helpful guys for me on this site) If you have the supertrapp, it can be tuned to your bike. The Oem exaust is great, but the cost for a good one almost = the bike cost Tune what you have and it should run great

Hello, this question is for bikerphil, when you say you are running 3 disc, is that remaining disc or? is your K and N in stock airbox? I currently have 12 disc in my exhaust.
I do not have the stock pipes.
Thank you for your time and response.

Yep, I went and counted them and I'm running (4) discs on my Supertrapp exhaust with a K&N in the stock air box. The air box is drilled out and the snorkel chopped off 1" from it's base. Here's some pics....
