As part of the refit of my '79f I am replacing the rear shocks I have found a company who will make shocks to order unfortunately I threw both the original shocks(they were well beat) and the ****ty replacement hagons (didn't even last 12 months) into the rubbish if anyone can tell me the distance between the top and bottom mounting holes preferably in mm without any load on them it would be just great. Thanks, and Happy new year to you all. Thumper.

Hey there Thumper,
Well, I've got a special, not a standard. But most folks have reported that their shocks are about 12" from eye to eye, converted to mm=appx. 305mm . I also have about 5" of clearance from the top of my tire to the fender. This would be the opportune time to custom fit yours to your size, ie., if you are slightly shorter of stature and have any difficulty getting your feet to touch, then you could opt to make them a bit(1") shorter, but keep in mind that you will need a certain amount of travel for it to keep from bottoming out your tire against your fender! Well I'm 6'1'' and 85kilos. Partly due to the shocks being beat, the State of some of our roads and my love for putting bikes over as far as they can go in a corner, i have worn about 3-4mm off the main stand peadal on the L/hand side and about 6-8mm off the exhaust silencer on the R/hand side so yeah you could say I have done a bit of grinding on the road. That's why I'm looking to spend just over £300 on new shocks this time so that the back end doesn't sink down in a corner and to get some rebound damping so that when the shocks are turned up nearly full for Southern Irish roads the back end doesn't spring up in the air after I've hit a large bump in the road (I have vast experience of this happening it's not big or clever and scares the pants offa you)ThUmPeR!

I have to agree with you. Hagon shocks are a waste of time and money. Let us know how you get on with the custom made shocks. Its also nice to know that there is another xs11 on the road in Ireland.
Maybe one day the roads will improve. Ha! Ha!.
