  • Gas tank fix

    There has been a few tech tips posted about removing the rust from the gas tank, but what do I use to seal/paint it from the inside?
    There was a link to a kawa concours page in the product evaluations section, but someone wrote something about the paint layer peeling off and leaving you with a plastic bag inside the tank. And I don't think thats good.
    So... I need something gas resistant that will stick to inside of the tank. I'm going to paint outside of the tank too, but that's not a problem.
    Any ideas bout what works will be appretiated.

    Gas tank

    LP there is a product called Kreem over here it lines the inside of the tank. Members have had good luck with it . Most motor cycle shops should have it or maybe and aftermarket auto shop. When i worked in a muffler shop we used to coat gas tanks for cars. We use a liquid plastic, but that was years ago and if there is a gas tank repair shop close to you check them out .       Kreem is good if you have good results. I had to remove Kreem that had deteriorated on the inside of a tank and I installed Caswells epoxy. I have had pretty good results with it. It is supposed to work in a tank that has some rust pitting. I would be willing to try the POR product.

        I bought Kreem. Before I used it I found this site. From the majority of XSives opinions I went with Caswells.

        I still have the unused Kreem that I'll probably sell on Ebay , or something like that.

        We need to treat wife's 750 tank so I'll probably order more Caswells.

          I don't know if it was Caswell's, but I got some 1 step treatment stuff from JCW's auto catalog for tanks with rust in them. I just cleaned out the inside with the shaking chain process to loosen any large flakes, then rinsed, dried, then poured this stuff in, it was white, coated the inside, then poured the rest back into the container, let it dry in the tank for a couple of days, reattached all the parts, petcocks, gas gauge, gas cap, and it's worked fine for over 2+ years now. They do make a distinction between whether you will be using Gasohol(alcohol mixed) vs. straight petrol !!

            I second (or third) on the Caswells. I have used it on several tanks...less prep than the kreem and I have never had a problem later.
