  • Side Cover rubbers

So I've been looking for those little rubber pieces for my side covers and I've made some remarkable discoveries about part numbers and who carries these items.
Instead of replacing the worn out/torn rubber, some have made repairs/mods with inner tube pieces and superglue, and while that works, I'd rather spend a few small dollars and get the right part.
I thought I'd share with you guys what I've found.
So, I've got an 80G and SG, which all of you know have very different sidecovers, but suprisingly some of the rubber grommets and dampers are the same.
Basically there are 4 different pieces.
-Both the G & SG right covers have the same lower grommet (90480-01401-00) MikesXS carries these: PN# 02-6504 $1 each
    -Upper Grommets:
-- On the G's right side they have 2 'dampers' that slide over the metal tangs. (2H7-21717-00) MikesXS also caries these: PN# 02-6501 $5 for a pair
-- On the SG's, the front grommets are the same on each side (left & right)(90480-12053-00) MikesXS also has these as well: PN# 02-6505 $4.50 for a pair
-- On the SG, the rear ones (left & right) are the same as the G's left side (front & back) (4 total) (90480-12261-00) This part number has been superceeded and is now this (90480-12355-00) which is for 83-93 XVZs, (also some yamaha golf carts too) so there's a whole mess of them out there by many suppliers for about $2 a pop.

So, for less than $20 (more for shipping) I'll have brand new rubber thingys holding my side covers on for both of my bikes.

Most of those rubber pieces are available OEM. As you pointed out, the XS11 shares these pieces with the XS650. The OEM parts are superior quality to the Mike's XS parts.

I buy my discounted OEM parts here:

Yeah Marty, OEM would be great, but there's one that's not available.
The G's right side cover's dampers that slide over the tangs are discontinued and Mikes is the only place that I found a replacement for them. So, if I'm already ordering from him, why not get the others so that I can and save on shipping.
But, I will look at the other OEM sources as well.
Who knows, I might order other stuff from Mikes instead. (like the handlebar lever boots) Then I can order the OEM pieces form the other sites and save on shipping there as well.

My own experience with rubber bits purchased from Mike's XS has not been good. Their rubber bits are better than nothing, and nothing else. Save yourself the aggravation where you can.
