  • replacement carbs

Has anyone found another set of carbs, say from a kz1000 or a Gs1100, or CB1000 or any other size of these three or other Yamaha bikes throughout the years that would in effect, work better, easier tuning, or out of necessity because yours were shot and these were available, or just to try it. I'm curious what anyone has found, tried, or heard of on the subject. What mods were involved in the swap. I'm not talking about an EFI swap either or big $$ aftermarket. Just Carburetors from a donor bike.

You wont find anything EASIER than the XS carbs. We already know the proper jetting, float height, and that they fit (which none of the ones you mentioned will due to carb spacing). They are also not hard to come by and fairly cheap. Many of us have spare parts and bodies for replacement. I don't see how it could be any easier. Even synching them is fairly easy and cheap. I could see changing for performance or mileage, but not ease.

got any pics of this setup? Was there a benefit, what mods were necessary?

            kz1000

one of my bikes has kz1000 carbs - seem the same to me except the enrichment is different but otherwise work ok. not any easier. no noted benefit - i think they were used by PO if I recall due to not finding XS carbs.

                Hi old skool,
the main problem with donor carbs from other bikes would be the lack of a vacuum advance tapping from the #2 carb. AFAIK the XS11 is the only bike that has that feature.

The vac advance tap is unique to the #2 carb, but what about the other 3 carbs, could they be replaced individually?

It doesn't have to be a total carb BANK swap.
                  Question:
Are there any other bike carbs out there that are the same/similar to the carbs that we already have?

In other words: if there's an ebay item for say... "some other bike's carbs" (be it a double or triple) Could you take one of those off the donor set and put it our bank?

How much different are the 850 carbs from the 1100's? (or the 750, or any other same year different model)

I'm just wondering? Any of you carb guru's got any ideas?

I bring this up because it's getting harder and harder to find 1100 complete banks anymore and even harder to get individual carbs, if we can find an identical replacement, lets do it.

The XS850 has Hitachi carburetors. The XS650 appears to have identical carburetors, but runs a pair instead of four. I can tell you from experience that even though it looks identical, it isn't. I swapped a body into my bank and it didn't work out too well.

Yep. The 850 has three Hitachi carbs.

Stick to the XS1100 carburetors to avoid a lot of aggravation.

                          hi old school,

myself and a cpl of others are running kawa zrx carbs
with good results, jets need to be changed along with
the throttle cable but other than that they fit well,
tadracer came up with a solution for the vac adv that
works as well as the stock carbs do,
check out the bottom of my sig theres a vid of the bike
                          with the carbs fitted.

So how did he bypass or reinvent the vacuum advance, does he have a "how to" post somewhere? I don't need it now, but I like to have information like that in my arsenal of future thingd that might happen. Nice bike!
