  • The return of Captain Unobtanium

Oh, mighty tribe of XSives, prepare to do battle with the forces of Captain Unobtanium. The arch fiend is, at this very moment, marshalling his cohorts of evil in order to fulfil his aim..... to render yet more XS1100 spare parts unobtainable and leave the world bereft of its most beautiful motorcycle. A once beautiful land will see the rare mythical beasts no longer. Cheap Chinese bikes, The Unrepairables, will scar the face of the world where once the noble, seemingly immortal XS1100 galloped proudly.

Yet, even now, between civilisation and darkness stands a courageous, lone warrior. Once fighting proudly with his 99 comrades, this solitary rear LHS caged-roller wheel bearing now stands alone on the battlefield of eBay. How long can he withstand the onslaught of the land of Unobtania? Who knows? But, somehow, I think his time is short..........we stand at the edge of the precipice once more.

ps. time for my medication again......

    Fear not, Sir James!
Lord Bodger lurks preparedly in wait beneath his shade tree until the last caged roller falls.
Then shall he sally forth leading his inexaustable host of custom-made oilite bushings to hurl into the fray.
Get 'em by the dozen, change 'em out with every new rear tyre. Or sooner if the wheel starts to shake.

Luckily James, I have a spare spare now. One in the shop drawer purchased a many fort nights ago, and the one I just recently recieved via Royal Post. I almost felt "impotant" for a brief moment.

Did you think it was the Queen sending you your knighthood? The bearing will be more useful, so don't be disappointed

                Hi Don,
those Royal Males are tending that way, several generations of marrying your first cousin (and yes, that IS legal in the UK) will do that to a family.

Legal but not advisable. It's also very common practice amongst Pakistani families, so it must be happening in the USA too?

There was a recent study that came out and stated that it is ok for you to marry your first cousin. There are several places in the US where they all went "Duh!! We've known that forever!"

(Warning, this is a joke, not a factual statement) Knew this family from SE Kentucky once, Parents come home from their sons wedding, few hours later they hear a noise down stairs. Its their son who came back home. Dad goes down to see what is wrong, son says "we had a fight". Dad ask what in the he!! could they be fighting about on their honeymoon that he would come back home. Son relucantly tells his dad his bride is a virgin. Dad says "Well by God you did the right thing, if she ain't good enough for her family she sure as sh!t ain't good enough for ours!"

                        Hi James,
dunno about the USA but my Canadian application for a marriage certificate had a long list of those I was forbidden to marry, first cousin was about the 5th one down.
As an aside, now that Canadian Law allows same sex marriage, will those co-sanguinity rulings also apply to same-gendered couples?

WOW !! Amazing how this string went astray way off on a tangent !! But VERY funny though, had a good laugh !!
But, talking about unobtanium..... I wanted to re-build the rear master cylinder on the XJ I'm restoring and lo and behold, it's a one off.... none to be had anywhere.
Fortunately, when I took it apart to clean it the rubber pistons inside were in good shape so I was able to clean and re-assemble without much ado about nothing.

Interestingly enough, I recall C-Bug changing out his LH rear MC for one form an XJ due to the LH rebuild kit being Unobtanium. I think he mentioned a guy named Chacal or somtheing like that on the XJ bike forum can get the XJ kits.
