I wouldn't lose too much sleep over anything said on these forums. For one thing, text cannot relay voice inflexion or a wink of the eye or a smile on the face. I try to abide by the Four Agreements, "Be impeccable with your word, Don't take anything personally, Don't make assumptions, and Always do you best." By Don Miguel Ruiz by the way. It's a lot tougher than ou might think but when you have it half mastered, you'll be a better person, living a much happier life. Merry Christmas to you as well. Can't beat the smell of gas & oil

Hey, I am the same way. Merry Christmas to you also (early). I have been a bit too pointed in the past on this site, even so far as to say something like "I told you so" when someone ruined their engine because they didn't listen to my advice. But, I still like this site and there is quite a mix of expertise and personality. Like the song sez, "You just have to hear what you want to hear and disregard the rest!" =:-)Skids (Sid Hansen)

Hey OEM,
I've got a pencil dick, so there's no comparisons for me anyways!!
I've been on here some 9 years, have learned a lot, have helped a few, and am still learning. I still make mistakes sometimes in my attempts to help folks, and the "fine" folks here are gracious to point out my foibles, that darn CRS gets me sometimes! We aren't perfect, we don't expect it from anyone either! So..enjoy that nice Vicodin and JD cocktail, and hope you'll stick around, teach and learn at the same time!!T. C. Gresham

Thanks TC, and I have to say, you have been one of the most helpful to me, a wealth of knowage, I guess that is why it stings when we disagree, but most times you are right Thanks for all your help, I will try to be less confrontational when being put in my place

Originally posted by cywelchjr View PostHey, I know how a hurt back feels. I badly injured my back in 85 and have had periods of pain from then on. Having been working on my car for the last week, I've been in a lot of pain, so I hope I've not been snippy with anyone myself, as pain tends to make me less patient with people. I know I've enjoyed my interactions with you as I have most of my interactions with pretty much everyone else on here. Hopefully you will get feeling better. I know I will as my back gets feeling better as I let it rest from working on my car now that I'm done with it. common thread
I see another common thread that links us all. First the love for XS, then military backgrounds, now bad backs. It's been three weeks since mine crapped out and I've had very little improvement. Haven't been able to get back to my restore yet, in fact I haven't even been able to sit at the computor for a few weeks. So I've missed this issue. Not knowing the full story I'm reluctant to comment other than to say, lifes short, treat everyone the way you wish to be treated and all advise needs to be weighed against personal experiences and circumstances, and most importantly, don't sweat the little things.mack

Bad back
My back isnt as aggravated as much by my military service, though I did leave with bulging discs from lifting too many patients, but more from my ever growing table muscle now unrestrained by daily PT (or the lack thereof).
Thats my new Thanksgiving Resolution.
Reduce the weight of the nut between the seat and handlebars to improve my mpg.

L5-S1 blown out doing Tae Kwon Do, surgery!
C6-C7 blown out lifting bike trailer while building it, surgery.
No fusions for either one due to no degen. joint disease(DJD), just aged discs that ruptured, simple laminectomies.
Regrettably a lot of folks DO have DJD and makes successful surgical outcomes more problematic!

Spine
Well mine is a little more extensive. Arthristis and disc degeneration. Herniated disc's at T8-T9,T12-L1, L1-L2, L2-L3, L4-L5, L5-S1. Four years ago the disc at L4 L5 ruptured and put me in bed for three months. Couldn't even turn my head. Can't really describe the pain but the fluid from the disc is some what caustic and got into the nerve canal. Brutal. I laid there wondering how I could commit suicide. Gun was out of reach and didn't want the kids to find me, couldn't get up to get to a doctor so no quality pain meds available. Wife sent my scans etc to several surgons. They all said the damage was too bad, sorry nothing they could do. Wife saw an ad on TV for back surgery in India. I sent them my old MRI's and cat scans. They said no problem, pretty routine stuff. I got doped up and drunk enough to make it to the airport lying in the back of a van and flew to India. They fixed the L4-L5 joint by putting in a set of what I'd call strutts, screwed into the vertebrae. There and back in thirteen days. Traveled alone. Worked like a charm no problems at that site anymore. The issue I'm struggling with now is L5-S1 The joint locks up occasionally due to the disc disease and if I bend forward when its like that it press the disc bulge into the nerve. Puts me out of action for a month or so, then I'm good for another 8 months or so. I really shouldn't complain though. This was the result of getting run over by a large truck while sitting parked on my first XS 11. Killed the bike but I survived.mack
