Im installing 18" Ape Hangers and need help.

How long must my brake and throttle cables be without giving me too much slack but enough and what kinds of ends am I looking for so they fit the regular levers on the XS1100?

Im ordering this stuff online so I just wanna make sure I get the right stuff the first time!!!

Mikes has extended clutch and throtlte cables for XS650 (see attached), I believe they fit 1100, but I will let other members chime in. You cut to lenth, then solder the end cap on where you need it. Remember, you will need a longer brake line also, good luck

Yes all replacement parts must be TMV approved (like DOT in the US but tough).

But if he's US stationed there he may get away with it.

Dont know! Somene told me theres no laws on handlebars which i find hard to beleive and im willing to risk it since I live in the boonies and hardly ever see cops. If i get busted u can remind me that u warned me So do you know what length throttle and clutch cable i will need? Is that true about cutting and having to solder them back togethor? Wonder how they do all that
Id rather just buy some that are the right length if possible?

Get some vacuum hose or that clear plastic aquarium hose and measure the length needed from engine to clutch handle while properly routed. Do the same for the throttle cable. Of course you will need the bars mounted to the bike first. JAT

ur wiring will have to be extended as well.

You are adding about 10" to the rise of my special, so get them a foot longer then the OEM special cables. It is much easer to add some to the loop then it is to come up short The tough part will be the wires, that will be a play it by ear

MikesXS over-length cables do come with one end unfinished and are supplied with a loose end-cap and nipple.
Soldering the nipple on is like riding a bicycle, once you can do it, it's dead easy.
Use a Bernz torch rather than a soldering iron.
Use LOTS of resin based paste flux AND flux-cored solder.
And the master-trick:- After the wire is through the nipple bend the very end of each strand of the wire, no more than 1/8" long, back on itself like a miniature chimney brush so it pulls into the pocket in the nipple to make a mechanical lock and you aren't just relying on solder in shear to keep the nipple in place.

If i get em a foot longer that means no cutting soldering or whatever huh? I LIKE THAT IDEA I JUST HOPE YOUR RIGHT ABOUT THAT BEING ENOUGH CAUSE IM KINDA POOR!!!! So whats the original length and who sells em a foot longer? Can I get em offa ebay? Will have to find a throttle, clutch, and brake hose that length. Theyyyyy even sell the brake hose longer??? AWESOME!!!!!! Ya ill have to cut the wiring (unfortunatley) and add some. Just not sure where Im gonna cut it yet.

Extending the hydraulic lines and throttle/clutch will be easy compard to extending all the electrical wires, which should be all soldered if you don't want to worry about intermittent opens. Then you will almost certainly end up with a couple bulges where you have to tape/shrink tube the things and don't use those funky insulation displacement connectors which will eventually corrode and cause problems.
