  • Carb Boot Cleanup

    Alright, Here's my problem:
The PO had covered the boots with some kinda RTV/plastic goop and even some electrical tape. Some of the stuff is hard as a rock and other(RTV) like rubber. And it's all over the place, even the clamps. Some are covered so much, I can't even turn the screw.
    And Here goes the question:
What do you suppose is the best way to get this crap off the boots?
The insides look great, so I know it's just a cosmetic issue, but they do sure look damn ugly right now.

Here's a nightime photo, but you can get an idea of what I'm talking about:

    buy 2

Just pop for 2 new ones for the outside and scrape the inner ones clean and reapply the black plastidip.

It will look fine and only you will know what lies within.

        Inside

I have found the the inside of these can be fine while the outside is cracked and ougly. If you use laquer thinner to remove most of the crap the PO put on them (sparingly, just on the crap) then scrub them with paint prep till clean, you can seal off the ends and vac tube and spray coat them with Performix Plasti Dip (can get at most hardware stores) They should work fine and look great Or spend fifty to a hundred bucks and get new ones

I had a can of acetone lying around and used that.
I cleaned up the bolts and hoses and clips and such.
Jim (from wisc.) sent me his old boots. (he got new ones for his 79)
So, I'll clean up my messy ones and send them on to pete? in NH (fire damage)
