  • Emblems?

I am finishing up the restoration of my 79SF and I am down to the trim I need a new rear seat emblem and see where you can buy the standard model rear cowl badge here # YC01"
    http://www.reproductiondecals.com/de...ents.html~main
Does anyone know if this will work on my seat My seat has two post that are about 1/2" long and held on by push clips. Anyone have a cowl emblem they could look at and give me the specs H/W/D and post lenth and spacing
Also, I find alot of 1979 tank emblems for 650/750's, the middle of the part # is the same on all of them, but they start with a different three digits? Anyone know if they are the same, just diff. 3 digits for bike size? Thanks, as always

    emblems

I'm pretty sure the xs1100 tank emblems mounting holes are spaced differently from the other xs's. sorry.

On the plus side I have an extra seat emlem I can send you for $10.00 + shipping (USPS, probable around $2.00). Needs 1 pin clip. should clean up nicely.
PM me with your email & home adress if you want it.

          Thanks

Thanks Tom, I just couldn't see why Yamaha would go to the expence of making different 79 Special tank emblems, when they all look the same and the tank bend and size is close enough to us "one size fits all" As to your offer, thaks, but I have one on my bike now, it is not perfect, but is good condition. As Chip Foose says "its all in the details" so I am replacing all of mine with "new", just trying to keep the cost down as much as I can I found a "new" insterment cluster (the small plastic thing tha says "Turn, OIL BKAKE LIGHT, High/LOW", but they wanted $60.00 for it so I reconditioned mine, looks close to new I still would like to know if the cowl standard and the SF seat will interchange. I have a chance to get a New standard one at a fair price, if anyone knows it will fit

Usually, if it's a different part number then it's a different part

The middle 5 digits of the part number just means what type of part it is, so, 24786 just means it's a seat emblem, it doesn't mean it fits your bike.

The first three digits tell you what bike the part was first designed for e.g. 2H7 means the part was first designed for the 1978 XS1100 E, and it could be used on newer bikes.

Things that make you say HUMM

So, it would make sense that if they were going to use the same part on a different bike (like the 1100 emblem used on 80MNS is the same as the 1100 Virgo, the same emblem with the same middle #, but diff. firt 3 digits

Nope, even if it was used one the virago it would still have the 2h7 as the first three.

That is not the same part number as the emblem that was on the XS. The XS part number was 4h3-1441k-00-0. It is possible that it has been superseded (although it was not noted on the yamaha parts site) by that part you showed.

                        You are Right

Your right, that was my original question, The #s are different on many of the parts, but I know "some", "interchange" I was hoping someone on here knew which emblems would for a 79sf

                          ?

I don't understand that? Here on this site, they claim "YT03" fits "ALL" 1979 specials, that would mean a 650 / 750 / 1100 Special all use the same tank emblem, even though they all have different part numbers I think the part #'s are different because of Yamaha pricing and ordering, not because of a difference in the part

Oh, there's differences in the parts all right. Keep in mind that these guys are selling a 'semi-generic' badge, that will fit all those models, but you'll have to 'fit' it to your tank; it may or may not fit as-is. I definitely know that the factory emblems on some models are different model-to-model and even side-to-side (and the part numbers reflect this) because I've run into it when trying to install them. The ones reproductiondecals sell are die-cast metal copies of the OEM plastic emblems (the molds were taken from OEM parts), but they shrink slightly after cooling so they're not exact duplicates.... you will have to 'fit' them to your bike...
