        Because I care for them...

Mine are named after famous Pirate ships. Pirate ships were fast and well maintained. And a little rebellious.

1980 SG = "Great Ranger" one of Black Bart's pirate ships , 32 guns

1978 E = "Rising Sun" Captained by William Moody and well equipped with 35 guns

1980 XS400 = "Little Ranger" another Black Bart ship, only 10 guns.

I have another ship in mind for my next bike build....

        John
John is in an anonymous city with an Alamo (N29.519227,W-98.678980)

Go ahead, click on the bikes - you know you want to...the electrons are ready.

          Mad Max

My 79 XS750 was Sweetheart, because she was one

My 79 XS1100 is Mad Max, because he runs like one

My V Max was, Insane, because reve-up and dumping the clutch was "Insane"

My 80 XS1100 was , Old Smoky, cause she went up in flames at the repaire shop before I ever got to ride her

My FZR was, Suprise, because that is what happened when I didn't respect a 700cc bike

My KZ750 LTD was, Slip and slide, cuse that what the clutch did after I put car motor oil in it

And my CB 750 was, Old Rusty, I am guessing you can figure out why

I never named my XS but My Nomad was named by someone on one of the XS East rallies as "The Buick" 'cause it was big, comfortable and fast like a ... after it was totalled, Phoenix Rider. called the new one "Deja Buick" the same colour 3 years newer

Named my XS Brutus, because he strikes me a rather a brute of a machine. And we get along fine if I don't piss him off.

                    astronomy

I named Hermes after the God of travel and commerce. Seemed appropriate as when I first bought him in 79, he cost me every cent I could save as a young soldier. God of the road as I used to jump on him, turn the key and push the button and ride steady for 2k miles from course to course or posting to posting and never thought twice about a breakdown. Only vehicle i had for bout seven years.
I named the LH "spica after the primary star in the virgo(virgin) constellation. She only has 9K km on her and I figure thats about as close to a virgin as you can get as a 30 year old.

Gonna name mine "Shankopotomus" because it's taken so long to get it going... a shot that goes pretty much dead with relatively little distance...

it beats bike 1, 2, etc

                        the E's are:
Skippy cuz it has a bad first gear
Ilene has a bent side stand
                        Leaky needs some gaskets replaced
ol yeller is old and yellow and might get put down
The other 2 are the first one and the mile eater, least that is how I refer to them. The mile eater is the one with the aux 5 gallon tank that I ride in long distance rallies.

The others do not have real names, I just refer to them as the SF, the SG, the SH and the venturer.
I have a bike and I am not afraid to use it

My first XS11 an 81 Special was named Thunderstruck after the AC/DC Song. Had the exhaust drilled out so it was a deeper louder sound, and the first tiem I pulled to a redlight and this isiot in a Jimmy started revving his engine up and pointed at me, I simply throttled up and had the clutch at the catch point waiting, light turned and he was a dot in the mirror when I hit third gear. Sine there were concrete barriers around the sound of that exhaust boomed like thunder, so as the song says "You've been...Thunderstruck!"

Now my current XS11 also an 81 Special, well, she came to me as a project, and through alot of labor of love and hate and love and hate, she was brought around to the fun machine she is today. And since there is a limit to the B-words you can use on XS11, and she was named during one of those periods of hate in the relationship, Banshee was the decision. Humpty Dumpty was due to the condition and the parts that went into bringing the old girl back to life.
