Ok so I don't want to race but I wanna keep up I have some friends who ride all have differnt bikes one is a honda 83 magna v45 750 and the other rides a interceptor700 from 86 I believe they say I won't be able to keep up now what do you guys think I know the big part of the diffence is the trannys but does the hp and motor size diffence make up for it I mean what do you think

Your XS1100 is a 90 hp motor, and was the fastest production bike from 1978 to 1983. It has more horsepower than either of the mentioned bikes and will scare you to death and leave the others in your wake.

unless your bike is only running on 3 cylinders (don't laugh, some have bought them that way and wondered what the hype was about) you should be able to outrun either of those machines in a straight line.

Just curious seeing how I'm a younger rider most my friends have crotch rockets and I have this fine peice of yamaha history now wanted to make sure I wasn't left in the dust now another one of my friends who rides a sportster xl1200 c said we should be able to embarass them but I honestly don't. Know like I said out of 8 bikes we have to cruising style the one hybrid lol (magna) a nd the rest are crotch rockets and seeing how my bike is the oldest now I have been getting some heat ya know

It will come down to the rider, if your XS is running right, they won't "leave" you A good rider with some Qrt experance can get sub 12's out of these old bikes
The V45 engine, so named because of the V configuration and 45 cubic inch displacement, produced 78 horsepower and could propel the Magna to a top speed of 240 km/h. The V45 Magna could do a standing quarter mile in 12.8 seconds which was Ferrari territory in those days.

Fastest bike in the late 70's
The XS1100 was the fastest production bike ever made for a short time in the late 70's, till Honda took over in late 78 with the CBX, but hey, who want's to rebuild and adjust that many carbs
Late in 1978, Honda uncorked a knockout punch onto the world of motorcycling with the incredible six-cylinder CBX. An early-release 1979 model, the CBX was created with the inspiration and experience derived from Honda's all-conquering six-cylinder RC166 250cc Grand Prix road-racing motorcycle. Both the RC and CBX were the brainstorms of Shoichiro Irimajiri. When Honda unveiled the CBX, it simply exploded conventional notions of what a high-performance motorcycle could be.
With six cylinders fed by as many carburetors, and double-overhead cams operating 24 valves, the air-cooled 1047cc CBX engine pumped out 103 horsepower at the crankshaft. Class-leading 11.55-second quarter-mile times came easily to the CBX. It was the quickest, most powerful production motorcycle the world had ever seen, and an unbelievable technological achievement. With a sweep of its hand, Honda once again established total performance supremacy.

Yea, you can beef up alot of bikes, I think I remember someone doing that with an XS1100 back when they 1st came out, Ah, mid 7 sec. qtr mile if I remember right, world record at the time

I will agree that the XS has a considerable amount of power, but scary it is not. I don't think you will keep up with the crotch rockets if they know how to ride. You just can't corner like they can. You may be able to catch some on the straights though. With an average sportbike rider you could keep up. Power for "IT TIME"
It had power for "its time", 1st production bike to break into the 11's, 1st modified to run in the mid 7's That was then, this is now, heck the car I drove to high school was faster then a new XS1100 in the qtr mile But it wasen't stock at all. In fact my M roadster strait 6 cyl, no mods, no turbo, no supercharger would just about keep up with an XS1100. They have electric cars and motorcycles running in the 7's today, but that is "today" That is why they call it "Nostalgia"
