After rebuilding my front master cyl twice, I found a new leak (or the one I thought was the plunger leak) It is leaking between the white / clearish resiervoir tank and the unit base (the part with the plunger and mirror on / in them) I didn't remove this part from the base when I rebuilt it, I have checked all the screws and they are tight, it just seaps out overnight an is damp with brake fluid from seam to the bottom of the base It is nice to have a brake fluid leak just above the freshly painted tank Is the a (availble) seal between those parts? and can I take apart to fix without breaking it for good

That's not a untypical problem...
The reservoir comes off (after draining and removing all screws) by twisting/gently prying until it pops off. The o-ring seal isn't available from Yamaha (never was either...), so you'll have to try to match it at the parts store. Or you could just thoroughly clean/dry the joint and put some silicon sealer between the plastic and the aluminum body. That's worked for me...Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

Wow!
WOW! Was there ever 30+ years of crud in there The "O" ring was the best part, looked perfect after cleaning. It looks like it had some kind of sealer that had hardend an crystelized. Cleaned it out with a small flat head screwdriver, then cleaned the alum housing with a flat head exacto blade (all kinds of crud clinging to it also) Put a small bead of RTV in both groves and around the round plastic O ring holder, put her back togather with a new cover and cover gasket. Going to let it set over night before I reinstall, thanks,1979 XS1100 Special (Mad Max, OEM) Current
