Welcome to the madness and fun of owning an XS11!! You did good by all means saving one from a scrap yard. There is enough knowledge and wisdom here to help you get that scoot running top notch.

First thing to check is if the carbs had old gas sitting in them, if they did, then your first project is pulling and cleaning them. If they are not clean the bike will never run correctly.

Also the tick tick tick, depending what you mean by that, could be the typical valve noises of these beast. The top end is a little noisier than some.
Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

When your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt.

          Hi John and welcome,
you got a running XS11SF as a freebie? That flaring green light in the sky is a reflection of my eyes blazing with envy.
Hit the search button to look for an itemized checklist for what to do when getting a neglected XS11.
Or perhaps a more computer-savvy list member could post a direct link?
If this is your first ever bike, beware!
The XS11 is among the first of the true superbikes and it's performance will astonish you.
Fer Chrissake take a riders course, eh?
