Hello all. I just took off my fairing to see what I could do about changing the fairing out for just the headlight and turn signals. I managed to get off the fairing without too much of an issue. I also removed the headlight from the bucket in the fairing but it doesn't look like I can take the bucket out. I already know I have to get turn signals. So I took some pics and see what you guys could do about some input. Like which cable should I use to connect the headlight and the turn signals? yeah so hopefully you can tell me where I need to go from here

You'll have to pick up a standard headlight bucket, and the OEM reflectors if you want it to look stock (which also retain the headlight). The bucket shouldn't be to hard to find, the reflectors can be. As can be the original turns... At least you have the headlight ears.
As to wiring, the headlight will use the yellow, green, and black (ground). The yellow and green should be coming from the handlebar harness. The turns will use the chocolate (brown) and dark green, the running lights will use blue. These are grounded through their mount, so there's no ground wire needed.Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

Trun signal mounts
I was going thru my stuff the other day and came across one full turn signal and mount. I know I've got the other one around here somewhere. The lens cover on the other one might be broken though.
I'll look again this weekend and when I find them, I'll post up a pic and set them aside for you it you want them.
I've been running a fairing on my 80G forever now and dont' think I'll ever go back to without.
Sorry to say, but my old headlight, I think is in my ex-wife's barn along with 'my' air compressor and everything else I didn't get a chance to take.
ps. I like your little round relectors hose clamped to the forks.

81 Standard question
Didn't all the 81H's come with the touring package?
If so, I would think it kinda hard to find the headlights/turnsignals for an 81H because they all came with a fairing.Hi, my name is George & I'm a twisty addict!

Here's a bucket and reflectors....

Same seller, so he might give you a break on shipping... and the bucket even has the sometimes-hard-to-find adjustment bracket included.

Just remember to take the fairing pigtail out of the wiring. The plug that is taped together in the bottom of your 3rd picture is the headlight plug, and everything else from there to the end of the wire is the fairing pigtail and needs to be removed. Of course, there are lots of other wires in the pigtail with that connection that need to come out as well.1980 XS850SG - Sold

If some of the connectors were removed and/or the harness wires were hacked it's a little more involved but it's not difficult unless the wires were cut too short and need to be spliced and lengthened before they can be used. That totally sucks.-- Scott

headlight bucket, etc
I've got the bucket, reflectord, & signal lights. The lights don't have original mounts (they're actually rear turn lights. Don't know if you want to work them in or not.
I had a standard with special lights installed in the rear holes for the reflectors, & bolts holding the light box in. Worked alright. Otherwise you'll have to find the original type front signal mounts. They do come on ebay fairly often. Prices all over the place. BUT, prices are down right now compared to summer.Tom Clisham

If the pigtail is like on the earlier models it unplugs, but being factory installed I'm not sure. But based on the fact that they have the headlight bucket ears on there I'm guessing they just plugged the pigtail into the harness just like the addon version for 1980 was, being that it's the same fairing you could buy in 80 for dealer install, just already installed in the factory.Cy
