  • Can anyone identify this seat?

My bike is a 1979 XS1100F. I got a great deal on a new foam and seatcover that was supposed to be for my year and model. I had an upholsterer install onto my pan and although she made it work with some small folds in the rear she said the foam is not for my pan. It does not look correct on my bike. There is a decent gap between the front of the seat and the tank. Any opinions and comments would be appreciated. Id like to resell the foam and cover but I dont know what it fits!

That's an aftermarket cover at least, so there's no way of telling what it's 'supposed' to fit other than what the seller/manufacturer told you. Now that it's been 'fitted' to your '78-79 pan, it may not fit anything else...

Yes Steve I did not mention- it is an aftermarket seat and foam made in vietnam. I removed it from my pan and it now sits in my closet.

Yeah, I've seen those on eBay and wondered about them. You might consider reusing the foam as I haven't seen any other sellers/manufacturers for new replacement foam and get a seat cover here: http://www.motorcycleseatcovers.com/...90&Make=YAMAHA. Duplicates of original covers, with the option of different colors if wanted.

Good reports on these covers from those who have bought them....

Back in late July I ordered a new seat and foam combo. The ad said it would take 6 weeks to arrive as they are made in vietnam. When it arrived it was not the one I ordered. The seller said to send it back and the correct one would be shipped to me. I told him I am happy with what I received and thats when he offered me a partial refund if I wanted the seat. I accepted. I CHOSE the risk and ended up with what I have. Please dont infer I am bashing the seller or complaining. The seller was great to deal with and I would buy from them again.

The seller on ebay has some FANTASTIC looking seats for the 1100 and now that bike season is over I have 2 options: I may order from him again- I have all winter so if its wrong I can send it back and still be ready for next spring. I had originally ordered a lower single level seat. Or..and this is what I will most likely do- I may have my existing seat recovered and even shaved down a touch. Would be done locally buy a guy that does great cycle seats.

                  The seat

You know, it really didn't look that bad. In fact, it looked pretty good.
If it's comfortable, I'd use it. Kind of compliments the exhaust & fairing.

I dont care for the gap between the tank and seatfront plus its wider at the top than what I am used to- feels like its really pushing my legs outward.

How it feels it pretty much the most important thing. Mine is not the most pretty seat in the world, but it's quite comfy, and I'm happy with it. Because if that, I'm not in a hurry to do anything to it that will change the shape or comfort of the seat significantly.

Hey shovelhead- my fairing is made by Maier. I bought mine from shadetree performance. Dennis Kirk carries them as well. Mine was on closeout from Shadetree and was $150. The rectangular headlight model is more $$ than the round headlight version.

They make a few xs11 seats....and we know they are not all the same....maybe it was a special. I'll take it, if you want to get a little $ out of it. I have a 79 special seat pan that doesn't have a cover. I could try and fit it.
