    I've got a can of acetone, but my problem isn't so much the varnish as it's the green corrosion that occured from sitting so long.
    That's why the brasso will do the trick.
    Good idea on the cotton fibers and tooth picks, Thanks.
    After I'm all done, I'll rinse in acetone to make sure all the brasso is off.
    I still have to get at least one gasket and some new float valves. I chewed them up pretty bad trying to get them out with the pliers.
