I have NEVER heard of baffle wrap. Do you mean EXHAUST wrap?? Exhaust wrap has no affect on the sound of your exhaust, the main point of exhaust wrap is temperature control. Keeps the heat moving away from the engine - cooler engine = better performance. Also helps you to not burn your leg when you have shorty pipes that are right by your leg like on a bobber or chopper type bike. And they look cool as hell too.

      Wrap

You also wanna have it wrapped as tight as you can get it, usually held on by those clamps with the screws in 'em. And they need to be overlapped a certain way depending on how big/wide the wrap is that you buy. It'll specify the overlap on the package. At least it should ...

Some exhaust wrap needs to be dampened before installation. It smokes and smells bad for the first couple of rides. Lots of reports of rusting and metal failure from using heat wrap. I would use it...on a drag CAR.

the baffle wrap bcknblkbirdis refering too, wraps around the
baffle that fits inside the muffler.

          hi bcknblkbird,
the baffle wrap will quiet down the exhaust noise
a bit, without affecting the performance, just wrap it around the baffle fairly tightly and stuff it in the muffler.

Yep, it will quiet the niose alittle bit. Kind of knocks the rough edge off of the noise instead of making things alot more quiet.

I know some are going to say I am crazy but if you want to save a few bucks, use plain old fiberglass house insulation. Works fine but you need to change it about every year.

So we are talking about muffler packing then? JC Whitney sells it for something like $15 for enough to do 2 average sized muffs.

Yeah, I used the SS wool packing when I packed my 4 int 1 Kerker way back in the beginning of the okieSPECIAL. I think I reused it in the muffler I traded to treeves.
