Brake light malfunction

Everything was fine. I did nothing but ride it. XS1100SG

Both running lights are on. When the brake is applied, the left lamp turns off, the right lamp lights both filaments. This happens with either the hand or foot brake. Relamped -no help.

Anybody here BTDT? I love a shortcut.

Ground problem. Sounds pretty classic actually. Clean all the grounds associated with the brake light assy and the problem should go away, as it's probably getting it's ground through the one bulb instead of the normal way.
