I hate to beat a dead horse, but i seen a post on here where a member showed a picture of a 140/80-17 metzeler rear tire on his bike. He had a picture of the swing arm and tire and how much clearance there was. If any one could find that post or know if it will fit i would be grateful. I would really like to run a metzeler they are great tires. but they do not make a 130/90-17 in the ME 880 marathon. Thanks again boatdoctor.

Keep in mind that the first number describing the tire size is the tread width measured in millimeters. That is an actual measurement. The second number is the aspect ratio, not a measurement but a percentage of the tread width that describes the sidewall hieght.
For example: a theoretical 100-85-17 would have a tread width of 100 mm, a sidewall hieght of 85% of width (in this ideal scenario, 85 mm) and a rim diameter of 17 inches. Please don't ask me why tire sizes are still a mashup of metric and english, I just don't know.
So in your particular situation, a 140- whatever is ideally just 10 mm wider than a 130- whatever. Roughly 3/8" wider overall, or 5mm (3/16") closer to the swingarm on each side. This info also holds true for P-Metric cage tire sizes. Hope this helps.'78 E "Stormbringer"

Doc, the extra zero might be the problem. The ME-88 130/90-17 bias ply tire will fit your '78E.
I've had two ME-88 rear tires on my '80G that both fit perfectly. They run, wear, and track nicely with either a Lasertec or ME-880 (yes, with the extra zero) 100/90-19 on the front.-- Scott
