  • Hurricane's coming out party

No, not sweet 16, Sweet 29 is more like it and for the first time since she was a baby, she's truly good to go. Like any Debutante she has a few adolescent blemishes and needs some polishing up to play pretty with the adults but arguably this little beauty has innate class and carries herself well in public.

She was to be named Theodora but when she was finally readied to be ridden hard it was the day Hurricane Irene hit Connecticut. Hurricane is more to her than Irene is to me so Here she is, Hurricane; all 22K of her and when driven at interstate speeds gets 39.9 MPG now that the carbs have been matched with proper DynoJet mods in proportion to the home made K&N air filter and Jardine Spaghetti.

Purrs like a Lioness and pounces like a Cougar.

    HAPPY DAY!
    VERY NICE!
    GREAT SUCCESS!

She's a beauty. You should be proud. I know I would be.
Only a few more months of riding time up there in CT.
Make sure you treat her right when you put her away for the winter.

Thanks! Yeah, like all the XS11/XJ11 bikes, she's beautiful. Nothing better about her than so many other bikes here & some are nicer than this one but... this one is mine and I'm really happy to have her.

Like I did last year with the XJ650 I have, I'll ride her till the first ice is on the road & then she's garaged for the winter. I'll run her once a week till she's hot enough to vaporize any water drops in the exhaust throughout the winter but won't ride her till the ice is off the roads in the spring.

            Hi KA1J,
very pretty. How about hoisting the soft bags up a touch so they don't melt onto the mufflers?

              Fred,

Yeah, they're on my winter list of to-dos. They're leather so no melting but they might burn, but curiously they don't seem to heat up on the interior (my beer stays cold a long while...). Maybe because they're Jardine & right where they are resting is surrounded by fiberglass wadding & the high heat is insulated from that part? (I just replaced the old baffling with new). My GF also wants the bags back a bit to give her heels some dig-in space. I'm going to see if I can't connect them to a wide leather band draped over the top of the frame but not contacting the TCI & wiring.

I also need to make an internal framework to help them keep their shape...

                Hi KA1J,
the problem with full size bags is that the rear signals get in the way of where the bags need to be placed so the rear signals gotta be moved. There's a signal bracket made to use with hard bags that you could use, or make extension pieces to move the signals rearward.
My own solution to the luggage problem was to add a sidecar but that's not to everybody's taste.
