  • petcock needs rebuilt?

I have an 78' xs1100 and the petcock leaks, would it be better to buy a rebuild kit or just replace with an after market on/off one?

Rebuild kits are going to be cheaper, and less hassle than getting aftermarket petcocks and then adapter plates.

I do not own a Standard, so I have not yet rebuilt one of those Petcocks. However, I do recall that most of the aftermarket kits, the valves are just a little smaller than the stock ones and do not seat properly to seal off the fuel.

Just what I have read on here.

It's not the valve that is different it is the spring on the vacuum diaphragm that is a hair shorter. Give the spring a little stretch and it works fine.
