  • oil pan and other ?'s

I recently purchased a 78 xs1100, I dont know much about them. I had to change the oil pan because the drain plug threads where stripped and some broke, so I'm trying to find out the tork specks for the pan bolts and where i can find a new gasket for the oil pan. Also I'm not sure what this is but it drips oil, it located on the front of the engine between where the exauhst comes out looks kinda like a "t" with an adjustable bolt on the left side. Wondering why it drips oil sometimes and what can be done to fix. Thanks for any help..

Welcome! Oil pan gasket is not needed, you would have to buy a whole gasket set to get that one anyways. You could either make you own gasket out of gasket paper, or you could clean the mating surface up and just use liquid gasket maker.

The leak on the front is the cam chain tensioner. Get a manual and do some searches and read up on how to work that thing before you mess with it, you can bend valves if you do it wrong.

The CCT is a common leak point. Depending on where it is leaking it may need to be completely removed and re sealed to the engine or it could be a the side bolt that has a o-ring on it that is leaking or it might be leaking from the end plug which can be cleaned and coated in RTV or you can still buy that plug and just replace it.

On that note, the CCT is a known weak point and does fail, so many people switch out to a auto CCT from a yamaha vision 550 or any yeah V-max.
