Just trying to come up with any reason someone would consider 6 jets smaller than stock, unless of course this 'someone' lived in say, Denver. But even then, 6 jets smaller? And as you alluded, dynojet is a possibility as they aren't available for the early carbs.

Having never dealt with Dynojet kits, what would our probable PO victim look for to determine exactly what he is dealing with? I have only my 78 to draw experience from in this regard.
Ah, but dynojet WAS available and is still just very difficult to find for the early carbs.

      Hey Excessive,

Your PODS filters is a possible big red flag!? You've already taken the carbs out/off, so look at the inside of the cone/pod filter...IF they are the CONE tapered design, not the cylinder or oval style, and see if they have the prominent mounting lip on the inside edge? If so, that can also cause problems due to restriction to airflow at the inlet bell.

However, if your carbs are the 78-79 series, then, most likely your wall is the too small mains! Just trying to cover/eliminate other sources of poor performance.

Without baffles in the mufflers, that could also contribute to popping on decel even with properly jetted carbs. Aftermarket pipes ie. 4-1's that scavange more for the mid/high end rpms are known for popping on decel as well. Setting the idle speed a little higher...~1100 so that the butterflies don't slam completely closed on decel can help reduce popping, along with richening up the pilot jet screw adjustments.

Another thing is that the stock exhaust baffles are not really removable, well they can be taken out but they aren't ever going back in, so you may not even have a stock exhaust which could cause other issues.
