  • Bogs under 3K???

Long story, but I have a 78XS11E and a 79 XS11. The 78 runs like a bat out of hell - very crisp throttle. The 79 was a parts bike but I now have it back together and running. It bogs down under 3K - no where near as crisp and sharp as the 78. I took the carbs off as part of the clean up process and took out the jets and cleaned everything up so nothing is clogged. I adjusted the idle adjuster as it originally would not hold an idel. Is this a pilot jet issue? I have searched through a number of posts and that seems to be the main culprit for these types of issues. When I took out the pilot I could not recognize any type of size marking. Not sure what is stock and if I should try a larger size.

One more thing. The 78 had an aftermarket Kerker, K&N and not sure about jetting, but it would pop a lot on decel. But, it ran great and was like a beast with a twist of the throttle. The 79 is like a flacid weenie below 3K.

i noticed in your post u did not mention u synced the carbs. this is a crusal step in makeing these monstesr run well. if u have synced them then i would pull your plugs and read them. sound like u are running rich on the low rpm...

My 79F has always been 'sleepy' below 3500 rpm. Above 3500 the cams really begin to come into their own and wake up the motor.
Former owner, but I have NO PARTS LEFT!

I was planning on taking them off and doing the bench synching. I don't have any other type of synch tool. I don't know these carbs that well so I am kind of flying blind right now.
