  • Help fuel/vacuum lines!

When I go my '78E, all the hoses were either disconnected or missing. I've been trying to figure out all the lines from the manual, but I can't figure out where the 2 vacuum ports go. One to the #2 carb and??? Is there anyone who can tell me where all the hoses go on the '78E, fuel and vacuum? Thanks for the help.

The two vacuum lines for the petcocks (1 each petcock) run to the two inner carb boots that mount to the cylinder head. The one vacuum line that runs up the left side from the left side cover connects to the #2 carb (count 1-4 starting from left side while sitting on bike facing forward) port. The #2 carb is the only one of 4 that have this port on top, on the side facing the motor. The other two boots that have no vacuum lines attached should be capped/plugged (don't do anything permanent as you need to be able to open them to sync your carbs)

      Hoses

      Tony,
you have vacuum actuated petcoks, and no octopus like we special owners have, right? You should have four hoses coming from the carbs, and two from the intake boots. The hoses from the 'Fuel Tee's' should be longer and will go to the larger ports on the bottom of the petcocks, and the vent hoses on the carbs go to the small ports on the air box. The vacuum lines coming the intake boots will go to vacuum port on the side of the petcocks. The vacuum line from the body of #2 carb will go to the vacuum advance, or at least that's how my 78E is plumbed. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Much appreciated guys. I wondered what I was supposed to do with that extra vacuum line. That answers my question as to whether it's mechanically or vacuum advanced.

Got the original seat?...at least on my 1980 there was a sticker showing the original vac routing on the bottom of the seat.

No Gary. I bought a seat from a '79SF from newmaac (Mike- Good guy) and I now have that on it. I think it looks real nice. I had to re-locate the ignition box forward to the plastic fender like it is on a special, but now the seat comes all the way down to the rear fender. The seat that my bike came with had no cover, nor the little "cowling".
