  • Desperate Aussie looking for guides

G'day all, I'm in urgent need of 2 valve guides (part# 1J711134-10) for my '81XS1100.

If anyone knows where they can be bought (in stock please, Yamaha says 3weeks wait) I'd REALLY appreciate a link!!

    Thanks heaps!

Thanks Shawn, the link doesn't work though... I'm getting somewhere with http://www.yamatopdog.com/ , we'll see...

G'day motorbiker69, I thought about the wreckers but I'm worried the parts are going to be just as worn as my old ones. Yamaha do still have plenty of new-old-stock but not in the country. I can't believe in this 'modern' world it takes 3 WEEKS! to send a part from Japan to Australia! The bikes been in the shop now for 2 months waiting on bits 'n peices and I've had just about a gut full, especially when I KNOW the USA and UK have parts sitting on the shelf and are happy to ship express (3-4 days!).

            Where you from motorbiker69?

i can understand your concern about second hand parts.i would order a few extra guides than what you need,if they have them and there a reasonable price.i have done this before,i've gone to order parts only to find they have say 6 left in stock so i buy the lot.it may be useful in the future(thats if the xs 11 is the bike for you)i have an xs1100rh as well.what number is your bike

5N5000538. It was a gift from my father who just 'retired' to a Nomad 1500 twin.

It needed new inlet manifolds and a few other things but the cam chain jumped and bent a valve.... the beginning of the woes....

It's definitley going to be the bike I keep though (untill dad gives me his Nomad hehehe) so it's worth the $3000+ it's cost me so far.

dont be too woried about your woes.a second hand valve will fix that 4 ten bucks.ill have to check my uncles bike i think its very close to your bikes number.mine is 5n5 000999.and dont worry about your fathers nomad i bet your old 1.1 will eat it in preformance

any idea on the starting number and number of machines sold in Aus?

ps - if this guide arrives in the next few days the XS will be ready to roll by Christmas with an 1172 bore to match the wiseco kit (hence the fear of older guides - no more oil leaks!) She should go like s**t out of a shanghai!

as far as i know 5n5 000101 was the first.some people say 1000 were made but i now doubt this as i have never seen a bike higher than my 5n5 000999.so iam realy unsure and no one seems to be able to tell me so your guess is as good as mine.going off what ive seen i was thinking my bike may be the last and they only made 898.this would go with them starting at 5n5000101 and finishing at 5n5 000999.alot of people seem to think im fulla sh*t,but there are the facts and i own this bike.the only trouble i think you'll have with your big bore kit is hangin on to the handlebars .i bet its a dream to ride.my name is sonny

                        Nice to meet you Sonny,

I'd be inclined to believe you about yours being the last bike. It's common for urban myths such as '1000 bikes made' when the last number is 999 even if you ignore the first release being 101. Congratulations on being the owner of the last XS1100 manufactured for Australia! (probably )

Have you contacted Yamaha to try to confirm this?

                            Hi everyone!

Well thing worked out GREAT with http://www.yamatopdog.com/ . The service was excellent, and my mechanic is now going to find out why Yamaha charges him AU$60 for a part that costs US$13 in Pennsylvania!

They had 13 guides on the shelf and cost me (including express shipping) AU$49.01 for 2 and they'll be here in less than a week (instead of the 3 weeks that Yamaha want us to wait)

I'm never ordering parts direct from Yamaha again untill I've searched every online presence in the USA. In the mean time I believe in rewarding top service and will use http://www.yamatopdog.com/ unless they don't have the parts.

ps: Sorry admin for the gratuitous links, I'll post one in the links section also...

The guides arrived yesterday (there was some confusion, I requested 'international courier' and got 'air mail' so it took nearly 2 weeks - still better than Yamaha).

If all goes well my mechanic will be back on Jan 5th and my bike will be back on Jan 15th... I'll keep you posted.
