Has anyone ever thought that their bike leans at rather a steep angle when on the sidestand? Looking at mine, it sometimes seems to me that the angle it leans at is more than the previous XS1100's I had several years ago but I'm not sure if it's just me being paranoid about the bike one day just keeling over. The sidestand lug isn't distorted or twisted on the frame and the stand itself is straight. The end that bolts onto the frame has enough clearance on it to fit a fine copper washer in, so I'm wondering if it's worn? I realise that the angle of the bike depends on the surface it's on etc but, on a totally level garage floor, I feel easier putting a piece of wood under the sidetand to raise it up a bit. I generally use the centrestand but, at times, this can be less stable than the kickstand because of road surfaces etc....

Mine is that way on purpose. I switched both my stands to the Special ones. The Special side-stand has a longer kick-post on it and the Special center-stand also has a longer foot-pad on it. They both give me more clearance for the MAC exhaust that I have fitted. The Special side-stand, however is shorter in overall length (smaller wheel on the Specials) than the original Standard side-stand, so my bike leans just a tad further over than most Standards. I think it adds stability. Also aids on-offs for me and the gals.Former owner, but I have NO PARTS LEFT!

So your bike leans further to one side than mine does then. I was concerned re the effect of leverage on the welded on lug on the frame and would prefer less of a lean. However, from you've said, yours leans more than mine without any adverse effects. Yup, must be me being overly-cautious.XS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. Iridium plugs. Maybe the Specials and the standards have the same length stand? I know my question sounds a bit geeky but, when my bike is on the sidestand, with both steering locks on (ie front wheel directed to the right), the angle it's at seems quite steep. I can put a 1/2" piece of wood under the stand and it looks less alarming to me.......
I'll take a pic and post it later........XS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. Iridium plugs. XS750 final drive (sometimes). Micron fork brace. Progressive front springs. Nice one, thank you. I have the 17" wheel too, of course. I reckon mine leans over a bit more than yours but not as much as the bike second from left.
I had a good look at my stand bolt etc today and it's all fine with no distortion of the frame lug. I bet those frames were hand welded back in the late 70's, so maybe there's a teeny bit of variation in the lug angle sometimes? There's no appreciable wear on the joint of my stand. I glued a thin piece of rubber to the foot this afternoon and it raised the bike a bit.
That's an impressive arcade you have thereXS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. Iridium plugs. XS750 final drive (sometimes). Micron fork brace. Progressive front springs.
