  • Tube on carb # 2

I just noticed that there is a tube coming off off the #2 carb just outboard of the idle mixture screw for the #2 carb. What is this for. Is there supposed to be a tube connecting it to where the vacuum cap is on the boot for the #2 carb.

    Thanks everybody,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
the connection from the #2 carb body is for the vacuum tube that connects to the ignition vacuum advance. The vacuum tube should enter the left rear crankcase casting and hook up inside. You can see how it should connect if you take the ignition cover off.
The carb boot connections are for balancing the carbs. They are normally capped off except one of them works the vacuum gas taps unless a PO has disabled that feature and converted the taps to manual operation.

#2&#3 intake boot brass nipple is for left and right vacuum petcock if a Standard.

        Hi Mark,
moto's right, two intake boot vacuum connectors work two vacuum gas taps on a Standard. The Special uses one intake boot vacuum connector to work the octopus. (centralized vacuum operated fuel control valve)
