That's how I learned to sync back in my teens. On my old Spitfire with dual Zeniths.

    Vacuum synch.

Adjust mixture for highest vacuum on each carb.

    Vacuum synch again.

The idle will rise as you do this and you'll need to back it down so you stay running on the pilots, not the mains.
Former owner, but I have NO PARTS LEFT!

Heading back to CT in a few minutes. I'm going to do this idle adjustment method and then change oil when I get back.

I'll have 240 miles on her since the "20 miles after running with new rings" oil/filter change. Not sure if I need to put in a new filter at this time or whether I should leave the new filter in till the next oil/filter change in another 250 miles at 500 miles. - There were quite a few tiny metal flecks and larger particles at the bottom of the filter cover after the 20 mile change & I don't want metal floating in the engine if I can prevent it.

      Thanks for the suggestions!

Best to change the filter because if it gets clogged it then bypasses the filter and any metal particles then get pumped through the system.

          Pure effin' magic!

Davinci, you da man today! I did as you suggested and tuned for the max vacuum in each cylinder & I did need to resynch afterward but bye bye poppity poppity! Took her out on the interstate and she flies just fine. Low end response if much better too, not hunting for fuel.

& Nate, I did install a new oil filter with the oil change. Kinda tough putting two oil filters in & two total oil changes in less than 250 miles but I know it's good for the bike in the long run.

I'm hearing a lot of clackity clacking around the head area at around 3K so I'm thinking that though I adjusted the valve shims, they might be on the looser side. Not going to look at that again till next spring.

Now to try & figure the best way to attach the hard leather saddle bags on it, I love my air-tight/water proof knapsack but I'd rather do without to carry small things around.

Other than some cosmetics and minor adjustments it's doing nicely right now.

          Thanks to all o'ya, y'all!

              Loose is good

I think slightly loose valve clearance is good as they get tighter with use . Noisy valves are happy valves ! Now , where did I hear that ?

I tried the vacuum method today although I didnt have a lot of time . I only turned the screws a half a turn one way and a half a turn the other way . No real change apparent . So I figure I must have been close ! I'm using the Morgan Carbtune Pro .
Oh ya I synced her up again as the chipmunk ganary in my airbox needed changing ...
and it runs great . It's only been in there since Spring . I found one side of the filter was darker than the other so after I cleaned it I carefully detached the spreader bar and inverted it . Now the clean half of the filter is facing the back where it get the brunt of the dirty air from the intake tube .
