  • Tool to sync carbs?

Caqn someone tell me were to find a tool to sync my carbs. I have a 1980 xs1100 special, or let me know were it was that I saw how you can sync them pretty close by using a bread tie and placing between the butterfly and carb throat. I know i read that some were on here but cant find it now. Thanks

The bench sync method is to get the carbs close enough so the bike will run...

Then you will need a set of vacuum guages or carb sticks to complete the process.

Not the cheapest option but it certainly is the best tool for the job, most compact, and easiest to use! I am glad I spent the money and didn't go cheap. Also don't expect to sync the carbs once and them never use the tool again, you will use it over and over again.

Your options are plenty for how to synch them. To date, I have synched all of mine useing nothing but a PVC plenum and a Mity-vac. The plenum takes the pulses out of the vacuum. There is a tech tip on building this also wiht a fish tank valve to switch form one cylinder to another. I just move the tube from one to another. It works, my bikes run well. However, it is not the quickest method.

Another way is to get four gages and hook them up to each cylinder. You need to calibrate the four gages though by hooking them to a known vacuum source, or a Mity-vac, or the same cylinder each so you can see any variations in how they read. Then your hooked up all four to synch at once.

There are several threads on how to build a home made tube setup. Alot of materials, kind of messy in my book.

Then of course, you cen get a actual synch tool like the CarbTune shown.

Here is a link to the tech tip:

                http://www.xs11.com/xs11-info/tech-t...chronizer.html

I used that idea and came up with this:

Yea, it's a fire extinguisher Or at least it used to be.

Thats the Tech-tip I referenced Steve. From my own experiences, that aqarium valve is a PITA to find, and when I did find one, it was a complete POS, and did not even work once for me. So I gave up on that and just hook the line to each carb one at a time. Otherwise, I built the exact same setup, only I use my mity-vac for the vacuum gage instead of buying a separate one.

                        carbtune

I got mine on UK Ebay....I think they are made in Scotland or England. Took awhile to get them because of customs...but work like a snap! At the time...several months back ....they were 94 pounds.

Reality is there are ways to work around both of those tools, but they are nice to have for sure.

As to the colortune, you want the 14MM size. Reality is, you can set your carbs up by the colortune, and it will get you really close, but you still need to look at spark plugs and read them to final tune IMO.
