  • cleaning gold air box covers

My gold air box covers have "rust"? spots on them. What's the best way to clean them without damaging them? Thanks

    Luck

I didn't have any luck either with mine, or the carb tops for that matter. I've removed mine and am in the process of having them stripped and re-dipped. If you do find a way, please post it for the rest of the MNS owners.
    Good luck

Mack, so did you try to clean them? I find it odd that even though the air boxes are plastic, the gold finish can spot rust. As well, my carb tops are looking a little rough too. Thanks for the reply. William

The gold (or chrome if you have a non-MNS) trim on the airbox is steel, held on with clips. If you're seeing rust, the only cure is new plating or living with the defect....

          Plating

My carb tops are crap as well, pretty much all the gold is shot on this bike. I have it all in a box, plus the exhausts (Black Chrome)and have been searching for a place here in Ontario that do good plating. Tree huggers are pretty thick up here so no one has a good quality product. I've been to several now and they won't touch it. Thats really the hold up with this restore. Not sure what I'm going to do.
