2nd time I have seen this happen on an XS11. Still not sure what would cause it.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

I got the bike from original owner with 34K - but it had been stored outside for 6 years. It had mice living in the airbox and was nice and nasty. I should have pulled the head but the engine only had a slight miss. It ran ok until I hit the highway for the first time - engine hot and valve stuck - kaboom. It ran pretty sweet for about 4 miles!
Anybody have a spare motor? When the horse is dead, dismount.

Nah! The problem is the pods or air filters, I reckon...... after all, it's only a small hole in the top of your piston.....XS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. Iridium plugs. The top of the connecting rod and wrist pin is all hammered and the crankcase will be full of metal. Split the cases to replace rod, then piston, jugs, head, gaskets = hours and $$$. Too bad... new tires, brakes, paint, bags, fairing... oh well. Nothing a fifth of jack can't fix...When the horse is dead, dismount.

I would say that head has another CC or so of capacity in that cylinder now! Yep, a new engine would be the cheapest and easiest. Just be careful, I mentioned another fellow XSive had that same issue, he got an engine form his friendly neighborhood mechanic. Well, after many days of lapping valves, repalcing bent valve, reinstalling oil pump idler gear and C-clip, dremel repair on gears, yada yada yada....He almost had a good running engine. Then came the fire that burnt it up!Life is what happens while your planning everything else!
