  • Shock Bushings, Tricks?

So I got some HD take off shocks and I got the bushings all out. Now I can't get the bushings back into the HD shocks. I just used a vice grip to get them out but I cannot get them back in. Does anyone have any tricks to get them in??

Thinking of just trying to put the bushing on the post and with some washers try to tighten the acorn nut with the shock on and hope they pop in.

    Thanks!

i used lots of lithium grease to get mine in and out. only thing i think that might happen to the bushing would bind against the eye of the shock cutting it....

Post is not quite long enough. Lithium grease, eh? Would gear grease work?

        Dish soap

You can try dish soap and water, the same way you put on new handle bar grips. The soap will dry and alow the rubber to grip the metal of the shock. It helps to heat up the rubber some to make it more flexable, hair dryer, sun light. if you twist the bushing instead of just pushing it, it will help it slide in, good luck

You can try dish soap and water,/////////good choice, any petroleum product left residue WILL rot the rubber eventually.

I usually push shock bushings in with a vise and a couple of proper sized 3/8" drive sockets.

Got them in but its not pretty. They were pretty crumbly as they went in.

I probably should find replacements.... Any ideas where I could get them? If they are available...

ended up using dish soap and a vice
