All depends on your style of use. I suppose if you trend toward rapid initial starts a bit heavier lube, maybe synthetic.
If you tend to be a more sedate screw turner you could get by with running it dry or just a touch of light oil.
      Any thoughts Scott?

Well, Rodger, the screwdriver is obviously shipped dry to save weight and to protect the environment. Before you use it for the first time be sure to pack the gearbox with some high temperature regular, blended or fully synthetic Yamalube waterproof trolling grease before you weigh it with a torque wrench.

The bevel drive gears look like they have a fairly tall drive ratio so they'll be able to turn screws at a comfortable rate but bog down a little when making fine adjustments.

The gears are obviously made for smaller, lighter, screws than the ones on the XS1100. If you regularly overload the screwdriver, turn it too fast for too long or do any hard synchronizations then the bushings and bevel gears will wear out a lot faster than the stock screwdriver supplied in the Yamaha toolkit.

Use an auxiliary fan when you work so you don't overheat the screwdriver and check the grease frequently for any sign of wear or sparkly stuff.
