  • Engine swap?

I know it's almost blasphemy to even suggest this, but has anyone put a newer V-twin engine in one of our beloved XS1100s?

I highly doubt it... someone put in a large Kohler engine... somewhere there are pictures. Only thing I could consider replacing it with is a VMax engine, V-4 power. If I wanteda v-twin I would choose something else to start with.

I have not seen it done, never really thought to try it myself. As much as I like the XS11, I would have to agree that it woudl be alot less work and effort to start with a V-twin based bike to put a motor like that into. I would suspect the frame of an XS11 would be difficult at best to get one mounted into. JMO.

Other than that it might be possible to do it (like putting a 50cc moped engine into an XS1100 too), why would anyone ever want to do it? You'd have a newer, V engine in an old frame and old brakes/suspension, an XS1100 that isn't an XS1100 any more, a load of hassle and expense to do it, probably more expensive/impossible to insure, probably not safe and probably looking rather daft. Oh, and a lovely looking classic bike, with a reputation for reliability and longevity, ruined forever.

            Just an answer.........

                          Hi Nate,
lessee now, suppose you had an XS11 with an unrestorably fragged motor, a 1200 Sportster with an unrideably bent frame, no money, lotsa spare time and the appropriate skill set, whyever not? An eccentric choice I grant you but nowhere near as dumb as hardtailing.
