ok somebody please help me here my bike XJ 1100 MAXIM runs great but if i where to cruise it at 70 or 75 mph for a mile or two it starts to sputter and spit then if i let off it starts to runs good again. Are carbs not in sink or what its starting to drive me nuts, Thanks. Dom

Sounds like you are running out of gas in the float bowls at speed. Could be float set wrong, something clogged in the cards, petcocks clogged, filters clogged, kinked fuel lines.etc, etc

How new is the bike to you? Have you had the carbs off?

Could also be a blocked gas cap vent; try opening the cap when the problem occurs. If it goes away, disassemble/clean the cap....

If it is high RPM oriented could be the size of the mains, but most likely is gas cap vent.

I have two standards that act like that. With mine, I simply turn the left side petcock to prime and the bikes immediately respond. Why just the left petcock??? I have no idea!

That means that the petcock is not able to stay open on the amount of vacuum available at that speed and throttle setting. It may be the petcock needs to be rebuilt in this case, as the diaphragm in the petcock may be leaky causing it to need too much vacuum to stay open through the tiny hole it gets fed through.
