Metzlers are a good choice for longgivity.......a bit pricey, but get what you pay for. I'm runnin' Dunflops right now, but scoot doesn't see a whole lot of LD riding(1000mi+) havin the ST for that.

Dunlop Elite 3's. I just put them on my 79 special following the advice of Topcat. Great tire.

On my second set of Pirelli Route 66 skins. No complaints or I wouldn't have gone back for a second helping.

+1 on the E3 on the rear. I haven't tried one on the front but I've heard they are bad in wet conditions up there. I have a Shinko Tourmaster on the front. The Shinkos bite good but don't wear well on the rear but they do on the front. Less expensive than most others too.

+1 on the E3, I have them on mine. So far I have had no issues in any weather conditions with them.

I have heard good stuff about the Metzlers, But I dont have any personal experience with them.
