  • running 80 xs1100 without fuel tank on

Can I just hook up my auxillery fuel tank to the two feeds from the carbs to adjust my carbs and run the bike that way. Thanks. Also why does Yamaha have such an crazy hook up for the petcocks and diaphram. I noticed on Mikes XS he sells normal petcocks with one feed each for the carbs will these fit my bike and can I use these without Yamahas Octipussy thingie.

If you have a "Special", you can not use the petcocks from Mike's XS. If your bike has a single shutoff valve (octopus), it is a Special. The XS1100 standard shares petcocks with the XS650.

You may bypass the shut-off valve. There is a lot of information about that here.

As to why, I can only assume the design engineers found the vacuum petcocks too large for the Special application and went with single shut-off, or some other such nonsense.

      Non-vacuum petcocks from Mikes XS

I see that Mikes xs has a non-vacuum petcock that looks like it will fit the 80 XS1100SG, same mounting configuration. Will these work.

If you have a special, you already have non-vacuum petcocks. Why not just do this... http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32980

XS650 petcocks have a different mounting base than the XS1100 Special.
