signal light flasher

I have been reading posts about the signal flasher I'am having problems with mine. The signals light but will not flash so I read where you can take apart the flasher which I did, carefully cleaned the contacts and ground plugged together and still light up but now the flasher contacts will vibrate but no flash.got it to flash once but nothing after, all contacts on plug side and flasher have been cleaned slid flasher unit back together and contacts stop vibrating still no flash,pull back apart contacts vibrate read where you can use a two prong flasher some guys say it works some dont if you use a two prong flashe what would the third prong be for anyway any ideas what to try next

The OEM flasher is a very heavy-duty piece and generally won't wear out, but is very sensitive to too-high resistance (poor connections) in the circuit. You might want to go through the entire system and clean all contacts/plugs before you give up on the flasher. The switch at the bars and the lamps sockets would be the first places to check. Also try unplugging the auto-canceller, as a poor plug connection to that can cause problems. If the signals then work, then either the plug is dirty or the canceller is bad.

On the factory flasher, make sure the internal wire to the potted capacitor is good and the ground contact between the shell/base when assembled is good. A poor connection here will give exactly the symtoms you have; the flasher won't cycle when apart unless you jumper between the shell and the base contact.

If you decide to substitute a 'conventional' 2-wire flasher, it plugs into the brown and brown/white wires, the yellow/green isn't used. You'll lose the auto-cancel feature.

The OEM flasher is very touchy when it comes to the watt load that it sees. If it does not have the same or very close to the same load it will not flash, just like on a cage when one of the blubs burn out the others on that side do not flash.

just get a 2 prong. youll just looks the auto cancel feature.

Had the same problem, would light, no flash. Took apart everything, cleaned, new wires, the whole nine yards, still same problem.

Turns out it was the bulb. Brand new bulb but IIRC they were the "long life" type. They do not provide enough draw to make the flasher work. If you have some old bulbs laying around try them first. If not try to find the cheapest ones out there, they will probably be the oldest and provide enough draw to get the flasher working.
