I switched to plastic floats. When setting height where do I measure?

The floats have a little ridge along the bottom and I don't know if I should measure to that or where the standard body of the float is. They don't exactly side parallel with the carb body either so I wasn't sure if I just measured the "peak" or the float or what.

Here's a pic so it makes sense:

Measure to the peak of the float. That ridge should not be enough to make any real difference, I measure to the body versus the ridge myself. But again, measure to the highest point on the float and measure both sides, they need to be even.

Measure with the carbs upside down on the bench with the bowl gasket removed. This is from the clymer's manual ↓

Better yet, set them individually. Float each bowl and set the levels even with the bottom of the washer on the bowl screws. The plastic floats from china are crap and differ not only from side to side but from each other as well. Using a standard measurement applied across all four carbs will yield less than satisfactory results.

I set them last night and am gonna try it out. I might even try checking them each individually if I have time and can find something to thread in the bowl drain. One time when I was trying to set the floats on a pair of carbs from a CX500 my friends dad had some 1" long plastic ends of what looked like from a tube of chaulk. We made sure there wasn't chaulk in it (it was cut off before it got squeezed to this point. It was still plastic but soft enough to start twisting in the in the float bowl's hole and the threads cut into the soft plastic and it sealed up perfectly. I stuck a hose on the end of the plastic piece and checked the fuel just fine.
