The standard petcock has a conical shaped plunger that pulls away from its seat when vacuum is applied. You might check for corrosion there and shine up the seat with Eagle or Mothers milk polish if it is sticky.

The labels were there, just never saw 'on' because that's where the lever was always, except when i had to goto to reserve.
So let me see if I can figure this out. The spring should push the plunger in when there's no vac, and when on 'on' thus shutting off flow. If I'm getting flow then the oring on the plunger must be bad, right?
BTW, I set the float levels and adjusted the backstop tabs so they wouldn't get stuck open, so now my carbs don't leak anymore, but I've got pressure building up in the engine case now.Hi, my name is George & I'm a twisty addict!
